A Georgia state representative is being forced to resign his seat and give up his bid for reelection after receiving pressure from fellow Democrats following his endorsement of President Donald Trump.

State Rep. Vernon Jones (D), who surprised many in his party last week by announcing his support for the president, said on Wednesday that he would not be seeking reelection and that he would resign from his seat effective immediately.

Jones said in a statement that his decision was a result of pressure and attacks he and his family had received after his endorsement of President Trump.

He said, I’m sick and tired of me and my family being attacked and harassed by the Democrat Party for putting my country before my party. I take pride in being an independent thinker."

Jones also bashed his party, calling out "bigotry against Black people that are independent and conservative."

I endorsed the White guy (Donald J. Trump) that let Blacks out of jail, and they endorsed the White guy (Joe Biden) that put Blacks in jail," he said. "Turn the lights off, I have left the plantation."
