On Wednesday, Rhode Island Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo signed the Reproductive Privacy Act, which allows a woman to have an abortion up to the moment of birth, into law.

According to the Associated Press, Raimondo said, "Fundamentally this bill is about health care. It’s about protecting and providing access to health care for all the women of Rhode Island."

Several Democrats voted against the measure, and per a poll conducted by the Susan B. Anthony List, 77 percent of Rhode Island voters are against late-term abortions.

The new law expands abortion to any time it is considered "necessary to preserve the health or life of that individual.
