Amid high tensions with Iran, it there are rumors that the United States intends to pull troops out of Iraq.

On Monday afternoon reports surfaced that the U.S. would be pulling out, but those reports were quickly shot down as Secretary of Defense Mark Esper told the press there were no plans to leave the country. According to the Daily Mail, a letter had been given from the general in charge of the U.S. coalition forces in Iraq to a military counterpart advising to prepare for helicopter flights as troops move out. The letter has since been revealed to have been a draft released by mistake, per Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.

Esper was adamant that "there's been no decision whatsoever to leave Iraq, period."
