Actor John Cleese, famous for his roles in Monty Python and Fawlty Towers, has sparked backlash on Twitter after saying “London is not really an English city any more.”

Cleese, who recently announced that he supports Brexit and is moving to the Caribbean island of Nevis, took to Twitter on Wednesday to double down on his claim that London is no longer a British city.

In context, it appears that Cleese was pointing to the fact that London is highly Euro-centric being the biggest supporter of staying in the EU than the rest of the country. But many attackers of course assume that Cleese is revealing his racism by attacking the majority of London residents who are foreigners. But Cleese staunchly defended his statement.
