Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo informed the press that an officer was shot in the back of the head around 11 p.m. Monday night and is currently in critical condition and on life support at the University Medical Center, KTNV Las Vegas reports.
Lombardo said in a press briefing early Tuesday morning that officers were dealing with a large group of protesters near the Circus Circus hotel and casino when a shot "rang out" and the officer went down. He also says that protesters were throwing rocks and other items at police before the officer was shot.
SWAT and K9 responded and were able to apprehend the suspected shooter.
