In an effort to turn everyone into a vegan, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has rushed to the defense of....oysters. Yes, oysters. The organization insisted they should be respected and never eaten.

PETA even made a short video that was posted to its Twitter account claiming oysters are "never vegan."

But PETA didn't stop at oysters.

Bivalves, or animals who have bodies enclosed by a shell, include “mussels, scallops, and clams” PETA said, and all of these should be respected rather than eaten.

This push for the rights of oysters was part of PETA's observation of World Oceans Day, which was celebrated Saturday.

How long before plants should be "respected rather than eaten?"
