President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday that U.S. authorities would begin removing millions of immigrants next week who are in the United States illegally.

It is estimated that there are 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., mostly from Mexico and Central America.

Per the new deal struck with Mexico earlier this month, the Mexican government has agreed to hold Central American immigrants seeking asylum in the United States until their cases can be heard in U.S. courts.

Mexico also deployed National Guard troops to its southern border, which helped avoid threatened tariffs from the Trump administration.

Details of the plan have not been made public. The U.S. State Department was reportedly in talks with Guatemala, but the Guatemalan goverment has not confirmed those talks.

Mexico has also agreed that if its actions to slow the flow of migrants are unsuccessful, it will discuss signing a safe third country agreement with the United States.
