A Fairfax County police officer has been suspended for allegedly detaining a driver that had been involved in a car accident and reporting them to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after discovering the driver had an immigration violation, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler apologized and said the officer, who has remained unnamed, violated the department's against performing immigration enforcement for ICE. An investigation has been launched.

The Times-Dispatch also reports immigrant communities in Fairfax County are "on edge" as immigration enforcement has been dialed up by the Trump administration.

Should this officer have been suspended?
