Dick's Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack told CBS News that his company destroyed $5 million worth of "assault style" weapons just to keep them out of the hands of private owners.

Dick's announced it would no longer sell "assault-style" weapons 2 weeks after the Parkland school shooting in Florida in February 2018. During an appearance on CBS on October 6, Stack said the company decided to destroy $5 million of those weapons.

He also admitted that his company's decision to stop selling those types of weapons resulted in "a quarter of a billion [dollars]" in losses.
